The Blood Line: The Blood Cleanses
Keeping with the theme “The Blood Line,” this month I would like to focus on how the blood cleanses us. There are three main reasons why Christ’s blood has the power to cleanse us from sin. First of all, the fact that makes Jesus different than any other man to walk the face of this earth is that he was born of a virgin. Mary was his mother, but Joseph was not his biological father. God, Himself, birthed Jesus by His Spirit and the Bible says that Mary knew not a man until after the birth of Jesus. The virgin birth then proves that Jesus is the Son of God because the only way this could happen, is that God placed this child in the womb. Since He was born of a virgin and the Son of God, then this made Him the perfect sacrifice to cleanse us from our sin.
Since Jesus was born of the Spirit and not of man then that made Him sinless. The reason this is of importance is that if Jesus would have been born like any other man then He would not have been able to pay the price for our sin because He too would have had sin in His own life. Since He was born of a virgin then He was not born into the sin and depravity that you and I were because He was not born under the law of sin and death. This is why His blood is pure and righteous. Even though He was all man, He was also all God. This is hard to understand at times but it all boils down to this, He was flesh and blood so that made Him man, but He was born of the Spirit not of man so that made him God’s Son.
Now we begin to see not only the importance of why we believe in a virgin birth, but also the importance of the fact that he was and still is the Son of the Living God. His precious blood that flowed down Calvary’s hill could never have cleansed us from all sin and unrighteousness unless that blood was holy; blood that had the “DNA” of God Himself. He was and is God but He became flesh so that He could first become that sacrifice to cleanse us from our sin. Oh what precious blood that flows over us and cleanses us from our unrighteousness and sin. If He was not the Son of God it would not have been possible for salvation to come through Him and we would still be in our sinful state and have no ability to have a relationship with God. Since He was and is God’s Son this caused Him to be the only One that could give His life for ours, to purge the world and cleanse us from this wicked cancer we call sin.
From the beginning of time God demanded a sacrifice for sins committed. The Bible says that “without the shedding of blood there is no remission of sin.” In the old testament God required an animal without spot or blemish, but the sacrifice only lasted for so long and then they would have to find another acceptable animal and repeat it all over again. Not to mention that it never set them free or completely cleansed them from their sin. It would only serve as a short-term covering. This served as a type of Christ, a foreshadowing of things to come. Therefore, when Jesus came, born of a virgin, the only true Son of God, He was the Lamb without spot or blemish and served as the ultimate sacrifice. By His blood He now has received forgiveness of sin, a total cleansing, and has set us completely free. The only way this was possible was for God to send His only son to be this sacrifice for our sin.
Jesus is our Redeemer and Savior and it was all possible because of His blood line. This proves that He is who He said he was and that everything He did on earth was done as a man all while He was still God. This is the most amazing thing the world has ever experienced and God himself said that He wanted us to be a part of it. Thank you Jesus for all You have done and thank You Father for including us by providing a way of receiving salvation through Jesus. Just like Christ was flesh but born of the spirit, now when we are “born again” we too still live in a fleshly body but are born of the Spirit and become alive unto God.
