As I read today's devo I really enjoyed the two pictures of the swiss army knife and the fencing. The swiss army knife example stuck out the most. It made me think about the scripture in Hebrews which also says the Word of God is sharper than any two-edged sword.
For the word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword, piercing to the division of soul and of spirit, of joints and of marrow, and discerning the thoughts and intentions of the heart.
Hebrews 4:12 ESV
Thinking within the swiss army knife context, the sword or Word has multiple uses. Not only is it a tool of defense and attack against an enemy, but it is also a tool we use to help ourselves. Sometimes some things need cut off of us. Sometimes there is soul surgery that needs to be done and as we look…
I remember a few years ago on the Bible app there a lot of people who decided on Jan 1 they would start a plan to read the Bible in a year. I was one of them. I was so excited. I committed to it and finished. While it was a goal I had met, I remember another feeling I had not only at the end but throughout. I felt it wasnt for me and I wasn’t absorbing anything, yet I kept rushing through to accomplish what I had started. This is where the Holy Spirit comes in. It would have been way more beneficial for me to stop the plan and focus on just a tiny amount. God knows us. I have to read and reread just one verse most times to understand it, and thats okay! I use to look at it as a flaw, but now I don’t. I use it to my advantage. Is my memory great? No, but remember God also knows the intent of our heart so He knows if you want to know Him, who He is and what His word is really about or if it’s just something you’re doing out of obligation. I will never stop trying and asking for wisdom and understanding! ❤️
